Obtaining a full driver’s license in Canada is a lengthy process.
If you have a license in different country, you can just exchange your license to the Canadian License by submitting an application form. It usually depends on the province where you settle in as well as which country the driver’s license is issued in.
Please see the below for Ontario:
If you are getting a license for the first time in Ontario, there are 3 steps to get a full license.
- Writing test (G-1 class）
- Road test （G-2 class）
- Highway and road test（G class, full license）
After you get a G-1 class, you can start driving if you have someone who has a full G-1 license for over 4 years on your next to you. (There are other rules, so please follow the rules regulated by Ontario government):
Before you take a G-2 class, road test, you need to spend at least 8 months (if you went to government certified driving school) or 12 months.
12 months from the time you received G-2, you can finally take a Highway and road test（G class, full license）
I have recently obtained my G-1 license and I have enrolled in driving school.
I am looking forward to obtaining my G-2 and to be able to drive all over Canada as well as the United States by myself!
